Watkins Glen International – affectionately known as “The Glen” – is one of the most iconic and historically significant race tracks in North America. Nestled in the heart of New York’s picturesque Finger Lakes region, the circuit blends high-speed racing action with scenic natural beauty, making it a favourite among drivers and fans alike.

Racing at The Glen dates back to 1948, when public roads in and around the village of Watkins Glen were used to host competitions. In 1956, the permanent circuit was opened, and over the decades, it has evolved into a world-class motorsport facility. The track has hosted a wide range of major racing events, from Formula 1 and the World Sportscar Championship in its earlier years to today’s top-tier series, including the NASCAR Cup Series, IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and others.

The modern-day layout used by NASCAR is a 2.45-mile (3.94 km) road course known for its challenging corners, dramatic elevation changes, and the famous “Inner Loop” chicane added in 1992 to improve safety. Another configuration, the 3.4-mile Grand Prix layout, is used by other racing series and for testing purposes.
